Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, Burbank Renew My Church Update: Discernment Process

St. Albert the Great, St. Fabian, St. Gerald and St. Louis de Montfort Parishes engaged in the
Renew My Church (RMC) discernment process through the fall of 2020. The Grouping
Feedback and Discernment team (GFDT), which was made up of members from each parish
community, met to review and discern the future parish structure for the area. Our deepest
appreciation goes to the GFDT who prayerfully discerned the parish grouping structure during
this challenging time.

Based on their meetings and feedback gathered from the larger parish communities, they
submitted feedback to the archdiocese. The Archdiocesan Standards and Recommendations
Commission, which includes representatives from across the Archdiocese of Chicago, reviewed
the feedback and other information, including financial summaries and parish trends.
Cardinal Cupich and Bishop Wypych are grateful to Fr. Nawalaniec, Fr. Warmuz, Fr. Pajor, Fr.
Stuglik and the Grouping Teams who gathered throughout the past few months, and all
parishioners who offered feedback through the recent discernment process.

Outcome

In the past few weeks, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, the archdiocese’s
auxiliary bishops, and the archdiocese’s Presbyteral Council met to discuss the Commission’s
recommendation. Based upon those discussions and prayerful consideration, Cardinal Cupich
made the following decisions regarding the parish structure in Oak Lawn, Bridgeview and
Burbank.

  • Effective July 1, 2021, St. Louis de Montfort will close as a separately organized parish and the faithful of the parish are invited to join any of the neighboring parishes.
  • The patrimony (financial assets and physical property) of St. Louis de Montfort will be shared equally among St. Albert the Great, St. Fabian and St. Gerald.
  • St. Gerald will manage the campus and lead the process for deciding the future of the campus. Other than these changes, St. Albert the Great, St. Fabian and St. Gerald parishes will remain in their current structure, including pastoral leadership of Fr. Nawalaniec, Fr. Warmuz and Fr. Pajor.
  • The Commission recommends St. Louis de Montfort draws down its ministry by June 30, 2021, including a final regularly scheduled Mass.
  • The current parish schools (St. Albert the Great and St. Gerald) will remain in their current status and configurations.
  • The need to increase Hispanic ministry arose throughout the process. The Archdiocese’s Priest Placement Board will be asked to consider recommending an associate pastor who can support these needs within the grouping.

Parish Structure Rationale

Through the discernment process, it became clear that sustaining the financial needs of the St. Louis de Montfort campus would not be possible. Based on the feedback heard by the Commission, dividing St. Louis de Montfort equally among the remaining parishes is most likely to align with where parishioners will go. The Commission is confident the resulting structure will provide strong ministry in this community, leading to vitality and stability in the three remaining parishes.

Next Steps

The parish communities will embark upon the next phase of renewal, focusing on strong evangelization to the world around us. The renewal process calls us to become a stronger, more sustainable presence for the future, capable of reaching more people in their work of making disciples of Jesus Christ, building communities with one another and inspiring witness in the world around us.

Etap rozeznawania

Jesienią 2020 roku, w ramach inicjatywy Odnów Mój Kościół parafie św. Alberta Wielkiego, św.
Fabiana, św. Geralda i św. Ludwika de Montfort zaangażowały się w proces rozeznawania.
Komisja ds. Rozeznawania i Opinii, w skład której weszli członkowie z każdej parafii, spotkała
się, aby omówić i rozeznać przyszłe struktury parafii na naszym obszarze. Wyrazy
podziękowania kierowane są pod adresem Komisji ds. Rozeznawania i Opinii, która podczas
tego trudnego momentu, rozeznawała na modlitwie strukturę parafii w grupie.

W wyniku spotkań oraz na podstawie opinii zaczerpniętych z większej społeczności parafialnej,
komisja przedstawiła swoje zalecenia archidiecezji. Archidiecezjalna Komisja Standaryzacji i
Zaleceń, w skład której weszli przedstawiciele z całej Archidiecezji Chicago, zapoznała się ze
sprawozdaniem oraz danymi takimi jak, sprawozdania finansowe, potrzeby kapitałowe, trendy
parafialne.

Kardynał Cupich i biskup Wypych składają swoje podziękowania księżom Nawalaniec, ks.
Warmuz, ks. Pajor, ks. Stuglik, grupom, które spotykały się w ciągu ostatnich kilku miesięcy,
oraz wszystkim prafianom, którzy zgłaszali swoje uwagi w procesie rozeznawania.

Decyzja

W ciągu ostatnich kilku tygodni, kardynał Błażej J. Cupich, arcybiskup Chicago, archidiecezjalni
biskupi pomocniczy oraz archidiecezjalna rada prezbiterialna spotkali się, aby zapoznać się z
zaleceniami komisji. W wyniku dyskusji oraz modlitewnego rozważenia, kardynał Cupich podjął
następującą decyzję dotyczącą struktury parafii na terenie Oak Lawn, Bridgeview i Burbank.

  • Kościół św. Ludwika de Montfort zostanie zamknięty i nie będzie funkcjonować jako niezależna parafia. Zachęca się wiernych do zapisania się do sąsiednich parafii.
  • Dziedzictwo parafii św. Ludwika będzie równomiernie podzielone pomiędzy parafie św. Alberta Wielkiego, św. Fabiana i św. Geralda.
  • Parafia św. Geralda będzie zarządzać kościołem i zadecyduje do przyszłości obiektu.
  • Struktury parafii św. Alberta Wielkiego, św. Fabiana i św. Geralda pozostaną bez zmian.
  • Zaleca się powolne wygaszenie duszpasterstwa w parafii św. Ludwika de Montfort, włącznie z regularnie sprawowanymi mszami św. Cały proces ma się zakończyć najpóźniej do 30 czerwca.
  • Szkoły przy parafiach (św. Alberta Wielkiego i św. Geralda) pozostaną w obecnym kształcie i konfiguracji.
  • Istnieje potrzeba duszpasterstwa w języku hiszpańskim. Archidiecezjalna Rada Mianowania Księży zostanie poproszona o zarekomendowanie wikariusza, który będzie mógł sprostać tym potrzebom w obrębie grupy.

Uzasadnienie decyzji

  • Podczas procesu rozeznawania stało się jasne, że utrzymanie kościoła św. Ludwika de Montfort nie będzie możliwe.
  • Opierając się na danych przedstawionych Komisji, równy podział parafii św. Ludwika de Montfort będzie również wiązał się z tym do której parafii przejdą parafianie.
  • Komisja ufa, że nowy układ będzie wspierać silne duszpasterstwo w środowisku, co w efekcie będzie prowadzić do stabilności i trwałości pozostałych parafii.

Kolejny etap

Wspólnoty parafialne wezmą udział w kolejnym etapie procesu odnowy i skupią się na silnej ewangelizacji lokalnego środowiska. Proces odnowy wzywa nas do stworzenia silnej i trwałej wspólnoty kościoła na przyszłość, z możliwością dotarcia do jak największej liczby osób w środowiskach pracy, którzy pójdą za Jezusem, stworzą silne wspólnoty i będą Jego świadkami w świecie.

Actualización de Renueva Mi Iglesia sobre Oak Lawn, Bridgeview y Burbank:

Proceso de Discernimiento

Las parroquias de St. Albert the Great, St. Fabian, St. Gerald y St. Louis de Monfort se
reunieron y participaron en el proceso de “Discernimiento y Decisión” de Renueva Mi Iglesia
(RMI) hasta este pasado otoño del 2020. El equipo de la Agrupación de Retroalimentación y
Discernimiento (GFDT), que se creó con miembros de cada comunidad parroquial, se reunió
para revisar y discernir cual sería la mejor estructura parroquial para esa área. Otorgamos,
nuestro profundo agradecimiento al GFDT, que, bajo oración, pudo discernir y elegir la mejor
estructura parroquial para la agrupación durante estos tiempos desafiantes.

En base a estas reuniones y a las opiniones recopiladas dentro de la comunidad parroquial en
general, se envió un resumen de estos comentarios a la arquidiócesis. La Comisión de Normas
y Recomendaciones de la Arquidiócesis, que incluye representantes de toda la Arquidiócesis
de Chicago, revisó el resumen y la información recopilada, incluidos reportes financieros, las
necesidades de capital y las tendencias parroquiales

El cardenal Cupich y el obispo Wypych están muy agradecidos con el P. Nawalaniec, P.
Warmuz, P. Pajor, P. Stuglik y con los Equipos de las Agrupaciones, quienes se reunieron
durante los últimos meses, así mismo con todos los feligreses que ofrecieron sus comentarios y
sugerencias a través del reciente proceso de discernimiento.

Resultado

En estas últimas semanas, el cardenal Blase J. Cupich, arzobispo de Chicago, los obispos
auxiliares de la arquidiócesis y el Consejo Presbiteral de la arquidiócesis se reunieron para
discutir la recomendación de la Comisión. Con base a estas sugerencias y bajo oración, el
cardenal Cupich tomó las siguientes decisiones con respecto a la estructura parroquial de la
agrupación de Oak Lawn, Bridgeview y Burbank:

Efectivo el 1 de julio de 2021, St. Louis de Montfort cerrará y quedara organizada como
una parroquia por separado y los fieles de la parroquia podrán elegir a que parroquia
vecina quieren asistir.

  • El patrimonio (bienes financieros y propiedades físicas) de St. Louis de Montfortse compartirá en partes iguales entre St. Albert the Great, St. Fabian y St. Gerald.

Siguientes Pasos

llegar a ser testigos de inspiración para el mundo que nos rodea.
